Guide for Authors

Journal of Wound Research and Technology (JWRT) welcomes the submission of original scholarly work relevant to wound care, tissue repair, vascular and neurovascular conditions, diabetic foot care, pressure injuries, burns, infection management, wound technologies, and related interdisciplinary fields. Manuscripts must be original, scientifically sound, and not under consideration elsewhere.

All submissions must be made online through the journal website. Manuscripts submitted by email or hard copy will not be considered. Authors are encouraged to prepare their manuscripts carefully in accordance with the instructions below to facilitate a timely editorial and peer-review process.

The journal evaluates manuscripts based on their scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical integrity, clarity of presentation, relevance to the journal scope, and contribution to research, education, or practice in wound care and related health disciplines.

Types of Manuscript

Original Articles

Original Articles should report original clinical, laboratory, translational, educational, technological, or community-based studies relevant to the journal scope. The manuscript should not exceed 7,000 words, including author details, acknowledgments, and figure legends, and should include an abstract of no more than 250 words. Authors are encouraged to include at least 25 relevant references, preferably from current peer-reviewed international literature. A maximum of five tables and/or figures is recommended unless otherwise justified.

Systematic Reviews

Systematic Reviews should provide a rigorous and comprehensive synthesis of the literature addressing a clearly defined question relevant to the journal scope. Authors should describe the search strategy, eligibility criteria, study selection process, appraisal methods, and synthesis approach in sufficient detail. A structured abstract is required. The manuscript should not exceed 7,000 words and should include no more than four tables and/or figures unless justified. At least 40 references are recommended where appropriate.

Meta-analyses

Meta-analyses should follow the same general expectations as systematic reviews while also presenting appropriate statistical methods for pooled estimates, heterogeneity, sensitivity analyses, and publication bias where relevant. Authors are encouraged to follow PRISMA and, when applicable, MOOSE guidance.

Ethics in Publication

Journal of Wound Research and Technology follows the principles of publication ethics promoted by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Authors should ensure that their work is original, appropriately attributed, and ethically conducted. Duplicate publication, redundant publication, plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, image manipulation, and undisclosed conflicts of interest are not acceptable. Further guidance is available at https://publicationethics.org/.

Double-Blind Peer Review Process

Journal of Wound Research and Technology applies a double-blind peer-review process. Author identities are concealed from reviewers, and reviewer identities are concealed from authors. Authors should therefore ensure that their main manuscript file is anonymized appropriately wherever applicable.

Initial Editorial Assessment

All submissions undergo an initial editorial screening to assess fit with the journal scope, compliance with submission requirements, ethical suitability, and overall readiness for peer review. Manuscripts may be returned to authors for technical correction or declined at this stage if they are outside the scope or do not meet basic editorial standards.

Review Process

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial assessment are normally sent to at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise. Reviewers are invited to evaluate the originality, significance, methodological quality, clarity, ethics, and validity of the submitted work. The journal aims to complete the first review round as efficiently as possible, although timelines may vary depending on reviewer availability.

Decision-Making Process

Editorial decisions are based on the reviewers’ comments and the editorial assessment. Possible decisions include accept, minor revision, major revision, or reject. The Editor-in-Chief or assigned editor makes the final decision on publication.

Review Criteria

Reviewers are generally asked to assess whether the manuscript is original, relevant to the journal, methodologically sound, ethically appropriate, clearly presented, and supported by valid interpretation. Authors invited to revise their manuscript should respond to all reviewer comments point by point and submit a revised version within the requested timeframe.

Language

Manuscripts must be written in clear and scholarly English. Either British or American English may be used, but usage should be consistent throughout the manuscript. Authors whose manuscripts require language improvement are encouraged to seek professional English editing before submission. Any language editing service used by the authors is at their own expense and does not guarantee acceptance.

Production

After acceptance, manuscripts will undergo copyediting, layout editing, proofreading, and final production. The corresponding author will receive proofs for review before publication and is responsible for checking them carefully and returning corrections promptly.

Submission of Manuscripts

All manuscripts and related editorial correspondence must be submitted through the journal’s online submission system at https://eism.web.id/index.php/jwrt. Authors must register for an account and follow the online submission steps provided by the system.

Revised Submissions

Authors are requested to submit revised manuscripts within the deadline specified in the editorial decision letter. If a revision is not returned within the allowed time and no extension has been requested, the submission may be treated as withdrawn and may need to be resubmitted as a new manuscript.

Title and Authorship

The title should be concise, informative, and accurately reflect the content of the manuscript. Abbreviations should be avoided in the title wherever possible.

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial scholarly contributions to the conception or design of the work, data collection, analysis or interpretation, drafting of the manuscript, or critical revision of its intellectual content, and who approve the final version for publication. Authors should provide full names without academic titles, institutional affiliations, ORCID iD where available, and complete corresponding author contact details.

Abstract

Abstracts should not exceed 250 words and should not contain references unless absolutely necessary. A structured abstract is recommended for original studies and reviews. In general, the abstract should include the following:

Introduction: Brief background and study purpose.

Methods: Study design, setting, participants or data sources, measures, and analysis.

Results: Main findings, including relevant statistical information where appropriate.

Conclusion: Main implication or conclusion based on the study findings.

Keywords: Provide three to five keywords in alphabetical order.

Text

The main text should generally be organized into Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion, unless another structure is more appropriate for the manuscript type. Use standard abbreviations only, and define abbreviations at first mention. Footnotes should be avoided where possible and integrated into the main text.

Acknowledgment (Optional)

Acknowledgments may be used to recognize individuals or institutions that contributed to the work but do not meet the criteria for authorship. Sources of financial, technical, or material support should also be disclosed where relevant.

Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they are cited in the text. Each table and figure should have a clear title or caption. Authors should ensure that all images, diagrams, and graphics are of sufficient quality for publication and that any reproduced material has appropriate permission.
